My Calendar Says January 7, Not April 1
No sooner did I hit “Publish” on the latest Timmy! bash, then do I read an article suggesting that Geithner is indeed on his way out.
Yippee!
Not so fast. The rumored replacement?
Wait for it.
Chris Dodd. Yes, one of Fannie and Freddie’s two fathers. Angelo’s BFF.
I’m a cynical SOB, but even I can’t believe that could actually happen. But the mere fact that it is being discussed anywhere but a crack house frequented by bankers is a testament to the depravity of our political culture.
How do you think they got him not to run?

who do you like for a replacement for Timmy? What about a replacement for BennY?

Hi, Nate–Howard told me you’re a regular visitor; thanks for joining the ranks of commentors too. How are things? It’s been a long time.
Now, to your questions: “Like” as in whom would I bet on getting the job, or “like” as in whom do I think would do a good job? Both are hard to answer.
Hell, maybe Dodd will get it–like Highgamma suggests, it is a reasonable (though disgusting) political deal/calculation. Won’t be Summers–too many enemies. Won’t be Rubin–too much Citi baggage. Jamie Dimon of JP Morgan has publicly floated his own name. Given the complete lack of any Democrat bench strength on the financial side, could well happen, though the anti-banker sentiment could cause him some problems. Goldman Sachs people are also probably particularly toxic.
As to whom I would actually like to see in the job, boy, I’m drawing the big blank.
By BennY do you mean Bernanke?
Things are going well. I’m finally able to use all the things I never learned at Wharton.A financial crisis would be a terrible thing to waste.
I read you, Perkins, Taibbi,Roubini, Krugman and Soros among others while listening to Thom Hartmann as I search for the truth. It’s out there somewhere.
I think the country is toast. Please pass the orange marmalade as I plan my exit strategy. Ive renewed my passport and think Costa Rica may be a good place to ride out the coming chaos. Atleast I’ll be able to practise my spanish. I’m going to spend the summer on a farwell to America crosscountry motorcycle tour.
let me know when your near Chicago or if you’ll be out west this summer.Keep up the brillant insights but quit sugar coating it.
