Merkel Tells Poroshenko to Save Putin’s Face. In Return, Putin Moons Merkel

If you just fell off the cabbage truck, you might be stunned to learn that a couple of days after Merkel visited Ukraine to deliver Poroshenko the message that Ukraine needed to back down from its attack on Russian forces in Donbas in order to save Putin’s face, that Putin opened a new front in Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Time and again, the hand-wringers in the west, Obama, Cameron, and especially Merkel, have desperately offered Putin ways out of Donbas. And time and again, Putin has taken these offers as a sign of weakness, and an invitation to escalate. The more aggressive he is, the more assiduously the hand-wringers try to appease him. The equilibrium in this game isn’t hard to figure out.

Merkel’s appeasing stance is overdetermined, but one of the contributing causes is her economic anxiety, and the wails of pain from German business. Today Merkel whinged about the economic costs of the Ukrainian crisis: the German economy contracted by .2 percent! Oh! The humanity!

Tell it to the Ukrainians, who are looking at a decline of about 50 times as big.

Merkel just wants the Ukraine crisis to go away. She knows that just washing her hands, Pilot-like, would look bad. So she mouths a few platitudes, and goes through the motion of playing bad cop with Putin, but does nothing serious to aid Ukraine (a piddling 500 mm Euros to support reconstruction of Donbas is a joke, especially when unaccompanied by military support), and through word and deed undermines Poroshenko and gives aid and comfort to Putin.

Putin knows this, which is why he continues to escalate, especially right after Merkel weighs in on Ukraine. She makes it clear to him that he will pay no real price.

Anybody heard anything about MH17 lately? No? Huh.

I’ve said this before. Ukraine, you are on your own, and your ostensible friends are no friends at all.

  1. Funny you are asking about MH17. Lavrov just asked the same question.

  2. It looks like the Ukraine army is doing its work very well. They had captured 9 russian troops that stormed in Donetsk on the 23rd of August. Here are some photos of them, published by Ukrainian government

  3. I see what you did there. MH17 – Pilot. Very good. Quod scripsi scripsi.

I presume you refer to the well known originator of that gentle exercise regime for olde pharts, Pontius Pilates?

  4. The best way to save Putin’s face is the one that is being used to preserve Lenin’s

  5. Ivan, that’s a good one.

I don’t know why anyone would want to preserve Putler Khuylo’s psychotic rat face, but that is one way to do it.

Problem is – there are still brainwashed zombified sovok relics in the Rasha and, sad to say, in Ukraine (but not so much any more), who still worship and pray to lenin’s green corpse.

And they pray to rat face KGB Putler Khuylo to “save them.”

In fact, as to Eastern Ukraine, although there is not that much support for Putler Khuylo, earlier this year I was shocked when I saw a video of some people milling about in one of the “pro-Rashan protests,” and one woman said, literally: “they’ve knocked the statue of lenin, how shall we live now?”

How in the hell do you deal with moron brainwashed zombies like that?

Then there are the assholes in St. Petersburg, where something about an independent Ukraine seems to have crawled up their butt really, really bad:

19 minute video of barbaric Rooshans literally assaulting Ukrainians who are simply holding up a sign “congratulating” Ukraine on its independence day.

    And –

a woman tied to a pole and being kicked at and spit at and terrorized by pro-rooshans

And now we have video proof of Russian soldiers, who were stripped of military insignia and cellphones, and told there were “on exercises” – except they wound up in Ukraine.

As cannon fodder – according to one of the soldiers.

The Kremlinoids have been keeping funerals of Russian soldiers a huge secret, so much so that they send armed guards to funerals so that noone knows who is being buried.

And Russian families do not know where their soldiers – family – are stationed.

The Kremlinoid Krappola continues big time.

    dezinformatsiya, provokatsiya, maskerovka and agitprop

  6. @Ivan-given all the Botox, I think that Putin has already taken your advice. I saw a picture not long ago where Putin did indeed look like he had been embalmed. I tweeted something to the effect that I had heard of pre-paid funerals before, but apparently Putin has pre-paid for a Lenin-esque embalming.
